Actually Baseball is not considered as a popular sport in Hong Kong.
There are two official baseball organisations in Hong Kong. One is the
Hong Kong Baseball Association, the management and players are local. They send players of different age groups to join tournaments outside HK. The criteria
of the team members must be HK permanent resident.
The other is the Hong Kong Little League. This is an organisation initially
formed by the Japanese living in HK. And later, Korean, US and more and more local people joined. They organise league games for each year. And the outstanding players are selected to form an All-Stars Team to participate the Little League Asia-Pacific Tournament every year. My son had been selected in the Junior All-star Team for three years to participated the Asia-Pacific Tournaments in Saipan, Indonesia and Guam. The All-Star Teams are usually composed of players from local, Japan, US and Korea. My son joined the locl junior Japanese Team for three years. And I consider the training of Japanese coaches are strict and tough. Though the coaches are not professional baseball coaches, they are usually the fathers of the players only.
All the league games are support by the player family. We shared the jobs by having fathers as team managers, coaches, game umpires; mothers as scorers and take care of the players on uniforms, gears, etc.
As far as I know, there is no school baseball team in HK now. Few years ago, there is a new international school in Tung Chung organized their school team by
one of their US teacher. But the school team closed with the leave of the teacher
after two years.
Like my son in the Japanese Team, they normally have practice on every Saturday and game on Sunday during theh League season. If there is no game on Sunday, practice will replace. It is considered as the family activitives for the players.
Japanese fathers and mothers gathered togethered in the sport field the morning and afternoon with lunch prepared, chatting and a social gathering.
But usually the foreigner teams are only up to the junior age group, as the kids of age around 15 ,16 have to go back to their home countries for study, especially for the Japanese. There is no Japanese high school in HK.
For local players like my son, after completion of the junior league. He can only join the Hong Kong Baseball Association if he intends to continue. Through the HKBA, he had joined the tournamnets in Japan and Taiwan last year.
My son takes the positions as picher ( he is a left-handed pitcher ), first baseman and outfielder.
In HK, there is also adult league. But all are amateur players.
It's a pity, you cannot earning your living as a professional baseball player nor a baseball coach in HK.

. I watched Japan against Korea on the tube when I was in Japan back in March.
Back to the playoff, Chicago's tied with Vancouver. Go Hawks!
