Hello,  I am a new comer of this website. I will run the Tokyo marathon 2009 and it would be my first marathon.

I will go there alone so I would want to see whether I would meet any runners from HK in the race.

Hello fatdragon ~  Welcome to longrun.hk forum!

We plan on going to the Big Sight expo somewhere around lunch time on the 20th (Friday).  I will wear my forum green tshirt if you want to meet up.  I am not a HK runner though but I am orginally from HK.  Where are you staying?  We are staying at the Grand Prince Akasaka (9 minutes and 5 stations to Shinjuku start line).

Hello lvrunner,

Thanks for your reply. Nice to talk to you!!

I will be in Tokyo during March 20-23 and I am getting excited....

I will take the morning flight on March 20 to Narita, and will go to the expo for the collection of runner's pack right after the arrival & customs. I guess I will be there (the expo) around 4pm.

Afterwards I will go to hotel for check-in. I will stay in Hotel Vintage Shinjuku.

Anyway, if we wouldn't meetup in the expo, probably we would meet again on the race day. Will you guy wear the longrun t-shirt? Then I would spot and recognize you guys, may come over and say hello to all of you!

Hi fatdragon ~
So you plan on carrying your luggage to the expo on the subway?  Anyway, I am very superstitious of what I wear when running a marathon.  Unfortunately I won't be wearing the green forum shirt to run.  I expect the temperature will be still in the single digit (may be around 5C at start time).  I am going to wear a long sleeve tech shirt to run.  We can find a place to meet up on race day.

Tokyo Metro is selling the Tokyo Marathon memorable one day pass.  It can be purchased from March 1st to the 22nd, ¥710 for one, only 25,000 passes will be available to the public.  It can be used between that time frame.  Make sure you get one!

Hi goodieR ~

We are staying at the Grand Prince in Akasaka 赤板, I found the hotels in 新宿 are very small and expensive but convenient to the start line at 東京都廳.

I did some research and here are some info. regarding how to get to Big Sight for the Expo ~  I would suggest no matter where you are staying, try get to the Shimbashi Station 新橋駅 and then transfer to another private railway line called the Yurikamome Line.  I think it is 800 Yen for a day pass.  10 stations and 22 minutes later, you will arrive at the front of the Big Sight.  You can also take the Rinkai Line but it is underground.  For sightseeing, Yurikamome is the best choice.  You will get to see the Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

The Big Sight is located on a piece of artifical land called Odaiba which was finally developed in the late 1990s.  In this area, there are shopping, entertainment centres, museums and an amusement park.  The only other building that I am interested to see there is the Fuji TV Station (cool design).

Here is the Tokyo Subway map.  Shimbashi Station is located at the lower right side.

Here is the map of Odaiba.  The pink line is the Yurikamome Line

Hi lvrunner,
Bear in mind that Toyko Metro & JR (Japan Railway) are 2 difference systems. Your one day pass of Metro may not be valid for JR. FYI, one way ticket of Metro & JR normally less than 200yen downtown (i.e. Shinjuku to Ueno, 190yen, 25minutes).

Yes, Suica pass is common for all of these. Last time I used a lot of coins, Suica pass is right choice.

They say both Pasmo and Suica are interchangeable.  I hate carrying coins.

No way to avoid coins in Toyko. You should carrying coins for drink and or auto-selling machine.
