So Team USA (basketball) wrapped up their week long training here in Vegas and played a warm up game against Team Canada (out of Olympic) last evening. Of course Team Canada didn't even stand a chance (120 - 65). I missed the opportunity going to watch the game (cheapest ticket was $12 only), missed watching all the NBA millionaires stars doing slam dunks and all the famous Hollywood movie stars in the stands.
Team USA played very good, I think they will get gold this time. If I remember they only got Bronze in Athens. That was the only game Team USA played in American soil. They now fly across the Pacific Ocean to Macau to continue their practice.
Its a go for Paula, she said in Macau with Team GB that she is going for her FORTH Olympic marathon on the 17th in Beijing! The only question is will she be fit enough to compete for a medal. Should make for an interesting race since Paula at 80% is still faster than 95% of the competitors out there.
Also in the news, Irina Mikitenko of Germany (winner of London marathon 2:24:14, 5th in Sydney and 7th in Athens) won't be running the marathon due to back and pelvic injuries.
Defending MarathonChampNoguchi Has Thigh Injury As we reported over the weekend, 2004 Olympic marathon champion Mizuki Noguchi left a Swiss high-altitude training camp early to be hospitalized in Japan. At first, it was said she did so because of "severe fatigue." Her trainer has now clarified that her left thigh is the issue. An MRI revealed damage to two muscles in the leg. She and her team will decide in the next couple of days whether she'll start Sunday's marathon...........from Runner's World online news.
You are right! They interviewed "water monster" Mark Spitz this morning on TV, he won 7 gold in 1972 Olympics. Man! everyone in the USA is talking about Michael Phelps.
