According to doctor's advice, one should not lost more than 2lb/week, in that case 8lb/month maximum. In simple calculation, 3500kcal = 1lb body weight, i.e. extra consumption of 7000kcal/week or 1000kcal/day is acceptable.
Basic daily energy consumtion for man=1800kcal, weman=1600kcal
You should both cut down your daily diet PLUS work-out to have extra energy consumtion = 1000kcal.
Remember, there is not short cut to lost weight.
