1) 55-year old is not an old man. You can say he's in mid-age.
2) Mr. Lo has a strong running base (completed FM) and exercise base (Sower's action from HK to Beijing).
3) 80km/week is not that much for preparing a marathon. He gradually increased his mileage, but not suddenly jumped to 80k/wk.
You can try the marathon training and you'll know it's an appropriate workload indeed.
