Standard Chartered has decided to cease our sponsorship of The Greatest Race on Earth. Five years has seen the series go from strength to strength, bringing a unique element of teamwork to marathon running, engaging elite runners and Standard Chartered staff members in the only marathon relay series of its type in the world. The Greatest Race on Earth has been a fantastic success, and we are proud of the way in which it has transformed the sport of marathon running. However, we feel that the time is right to review our objectives and the options. We remain committed to our marathon sponsorships in key markets, and will continue to look for opportunities to engage the communities in the markets in which we operate.

in SCM, for HK$270, we get a T-short, unlimited drinks, banana, chocolate, water, a pear, pocari after the race, and the useless medal....

may be in the US, you have great look girls cheering you every 2K???
also pre-race pasta lunch, after race massage, limo service????
sport conference as well? I heard every year in the Boston Marathon, the medical community also organize the world largest sports medicine conference.

Now that is added value!!!

Honestly, in terms of tangible things that you can take from the race, it is pretty much the same.  For Boston, you do get a free pasta pre-race meal for a registration fee of US$110

But I think the organizers here do listen to feedback from the runners.  And the full is usually the most popular race instead of a 10k.  Sometimes, we are shocked to find out non-runners attempting the full marathon with minimal training.  I think some people just want to brag to their friends that they "run" a marathon.

For this year's LA Marathon, due to pressure from those church people, the organizer had to move the race to May.  Weather was a little too warm and many runners didn't feel comfortable.  So, the organizer listened and is moving the race back to Mar next year.  Boston originally started at 12pm.  In the spring, it is usually still cool.  But a couple of times, temp was very high and so Boston moved the race earlier to 10:30.

I think in here if any race receive bad feedback from the runners, they may not be able to get enough participants the following year.  There are just too many races to choose from.  For me, within an hour of two of drive, I have at least 3-4 full marathons I can choose from a year, though it is a little harder to find 10k, or 8k.

好難換贊助商....渣打d花了十幾年先可以將香港馬拉松搞起....你話換渣打,佢一定同你死個

想換贊助商....不如換條好d..有特色的路.

HKD2000 for the NYC is too expensive !.... no matter how better service is.

I am with you.  I don't know if NYC service is good or not.  I heard some runners enjoyed it very much.  But it is too pricey.  You will have to pay US$20-$30 just to get into the lottery and hope to be able to register.  And at that time you will have to pay $170-$180 to register.  I probably can qualify for guarantee entry and save the lottery fee (I am older and the standard is lower), but it is still too expensive

And any decent hotel will probably be $300-$500/night over there.  That's why I think it would be cheaper for me to fly from US west coast to HK to run HKSCM than to fly east to run NYC.  But I really hate running in warm weather and running on the highway breathing in exhaust air from the cars going in the opposite lane.

I think one of the reasons for such high price is that the cost of those helpers is higher than HK...

I think most people are volunteers.  But the police costs a lot of $.

I see.  I think most volunteers here in US don't get any money.  Probably just some free food + a free tee.
I know for Boston, the volunteers got the very nice wind jacket.

But again, the police costs an arm and a leg in many cases.  In fact, a city about 1 hour of drive from mine is going bankrupt because it can't afford to pay the high salaries of the police and firemen.

ching, 我本來真的準備2011年坐飛機到香港跑HKSCM，現在也真的準備放棄這計劃，可能會改跑東京或上海。
