Hi, all ching & ctse,

I am a fat man and start to have a 'fast walk' three to four times a week around one month.  The distance for the fast walk is around 3.2 to 4 km in 50 min or 60 min respectively.

Age = 41
Weight = 245 lb (before fast walking) down to 241 lb (now)
Height = 5 feet 11 inch

Target = to reduce my weight down to 200 lb or below and then start jogging hopefully in this winter (too optimistic?).  Want to join Standard Chartered Bank Marathon after two to three years later

Reason of starting doing exercise

1. for health
2. improve my heart and lung


Would try my best to achieve my target.  Certain benefits were found after starting my 'fast walk' apart from losing the 4 lb

1. my knee previous lose strength when climbing up stairs.  But now, the situation improves
2. when I get back to home after work, I always feel tire but now this feeling also gone
3. my neck always get tire but unexpectedly, this feeling also gone
4. when I feel tire, I always go to have a spa but now I haven't go to spa for around 3 three weeks (save money)

Any previous article relating to 'keep fit' or training like my case, starting to lose weight and then finally complete a marathon game?

patwong c-hing,
If you are not a serious runner, you are advise to continue your "Fast Walk" exercise first until you lose some weight.
In addition, the "Fast Walk" exercises let your body to adapt to the work load before you start your running exercise.
You may try to jog for 30 minutes, then gradually change to slow run.

Wow!!

Just scan through some threads and then know two ching replied my post.

Feeling is warm in this cold weather.

First, when I start to fast walk in mid December 2008 since I was 20 years old (still a student), I can only fast walk for around 1.2 km in using 15 min and really want to die.

After that, I can 'fast walk' for around 4.8km in 50 mins and 6.0 km in 62 mins now and feel very happy even though my speed is still slow as compared to all professional ching and ctse.

My aim of doing exercise is to lose weight and enjoy the process.

Three stipuid questions:-

1. Where and how can ching/ctse to measure % fat as reading certain post?
2. Is the heart beat watch equip with heart beat belt?  Is there any watch can measure the heart beat rate without the belt?  Expensive?
3. Is my speed of 'fast walking' in my sense not really fast walking or simply a walk?  If so, may be I would try to increase my speed as much as I can 1 month later (hope to reduce my weight further before increae my speed)

Actually, there are more reference links at the other zone of this forum:

Some of them are life experience from other c-hing/c-tse, you may use them as reference.
As for those Pulse watch, check it out at another zone: "跑步裝備討論", or raise the question in those zone.

    I also recommend U to keep on fast walking, or try cycling or swimming to reduce more weight before seriously engage in running!
