I don't really care and I will this time. If they really want to enforce it, they can pull me off the course then. I ran 3 marathons last year without it. It was a pain in the a$$ for me. Actual ...
There are many heated discussions about whether MP3 should be banned or not. Frankly, I don't have any position on this. Personally, I dont' wear one for a race. I do, however, wear my iPod in all my training. I train alone almost 100% of time. It is very boring without music. But when I race, it is so nice to run with others. Wearing a MP3 kind of defeat the purpose of this "group" feeling. For me, it is fun to run a race without music. I can focus on the runners surrounding me. Time just goes by so quickly in a race anyway.
One of the reasons for banning it is for safety. There are cases that some runners bumped into each other or are blocking the medics, etc. But I guess if the volume is not too high and the runner isstill able to hear the surroundings, it is probably not very dangerous.
Normally, those who do wear one usually tend to run a little slower so I don't see them very often. However, in Boston this year, I do see some pretty good runners (women running 3:10 pace are pretty good) wearing one. |
