How did the machine read the paper tag? Is this any trick behind the paper tag?

Alex hing, here is the back of the disposable paper timing chip. Pretty high tech stuff!  I think it will be used by HK races eventually.   

Oh I C! It's Avery Dennison RFID chip, something similar to the security tag using in HK. Yes, it's cheap and disposable. But I thing it cannot be used for water sport, triathlon, IRONMAN, .....

So how about (heavy) rain during the race? Would the paper chip be damaged too?

May be?! Better to insert the paper tag underneath your feet if rainning.

另我見過香港有啲比賽個number bib上有bar code，唔知衝線點掃個bar code。

It sound funny. After crossing the finished line, a guy will told you to stop and then using a handheld scanner to scan your barcode for record.

呢個system o向香港出過事架喇，幾年前o既畢拉山用過，因為號碼布濕晒，再加上唔少跑手有習慣將塊號碼布整巢佢先用，結果有運動員o向終點scan極都scan唔到，搞到大排長龍﹙因為要跑次序scan﹚…成績仲好似當日都出唔 ...

They are still using this system for the Mt. Bulter 15K race......

今年檀香山馬拉松改番用紀念晶片(不用交還), 經過上年嘅教訓, 主辦單位今年都係怕怕唔敢再得罪班"架仔"跑手啦. 報名費將會加至高達US$200!!! 簡直搶錢!!! 好在小弟一早報咗名!

US$200.... 物夏威夷啲野貴成咁.........如果報名費比距離成正比﹔咁KONA咪要過千!!!

Actually only housing is expensive in Hawaii.  $2 a cup of coffee at a Starbucks in Las Vegas and the same in Honolulu also.  Because it is part of the states, the federal government regulates a lot ...

I hadn't been there. I'd only visited LA years ago.
